The Important FAQ's
Does our fleet policy cover us to drive other vehicles?
No - unlike a personal motor insurance, cover does not extend to driving other cars that are not owned, hired or leased to the company.
Who can drive under fleet?
This varies but usually covers ‘any authorised driver’ but subject to age terms and conditions. Also, drivers may be restricted on certain high value vehicles as well as restricted due to convictions.
Would staff be covered to drive their own vehicles for our business use?
No, cover is only for vehicles owned by the company unless agreed by the insurer an insured on the fleet and not elsewhere.
Is use of the vehicles limited in any way?
Yes, the limitations of use and geographical limits of use will be shown in your policy schedule and policy document.
What is the MID (Motor Insurance Database)?
To reduce the number of Uninsured vehicles the government introduced a database. Any vehicle that you have in your possession for over 14 days must be added to the MID.
Usually you have an online log in to update the information. You can be fined up to £5000 for not keeping the details up to date.
Most Police cars have ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) and your vehicles will appear uninsured if you have not updated the MID.
